Ghost Robot is proud to announce that their most recent film, Against The Current, produced by Joshua Zeman and Mary Jane Skalski of Next Wednesday, has been accepted into this year's Sundance film Festival.

Directed by Peter Callahan, Against The Current is the story of Paul Thompson, (Joseph Fiennes), a man with a tragic past and urgent calling, who enlists the help of two friends (Elizabeth Reaser and Justin Kirk) to swim the entire length of the Hudson River.

Both tragic and funny, the film is a compelling and uncompromising exploration of sorrow and loss, one's right to determine their own fate, and the limits and responsibilities of friendship. The film also stars Michelle Trachtenberg and the Oscar Nominated Mary Tyler Moore.

Congrats as well to Fortissimo Films, Ambush Entertainment, and the rest of the Ghost Robot cast and crew who worked long and hard to bring this film the big screen.

A Walk into the Sea is director Esther Robinson's personal inquiry into the truth behind her Uncle Danny Williams' mysterious 1966 disappearance. Virtually unknown today, Danny was Andy Warhol's lover, and a promising young filmmaker. The discovery of 20 never-before-seen films William's made during his time at the Factory-- and whose many subjects include Andy Warhol, Edie Sedgwick, Paul Morrissey, Brigid Berlin, Billy Name and what may be the earliest known footage of the Velvet Underground reveals a luminous talent and a stark gap in the historical record. Combined with intimate interviews of surviving Factory members, the film gets beyond the icons and quietly dismantles the Warhol myth-making machine, allowing a deeper examination of the human fragility on which Andy Warhol's empire was built.

Commercial urban art houses are often so filled up with studio specialty division releases that truly independent films have a tough time getting in. But a vibrant and varied alternative scene is growing to get these endangered small movies seen - and maybe even to make a little money. It involves cinematheques, non-profit film centers with niche-oriented programming, film clubs, museums, microcinemas and cafes, universities, and more. Despite the growth of online platforms and on-demand sources for home viewing, these outlets are committed to providing communal moviegoing experiences, often with an educational component. And traditional distributors are working with them, even while continuing to try for extended engagements in the commercial theaters.

Film piracy, the conventional wisdom goes, is a threat to the film industry at all levels. That's certainly the sense at the Sundance Film Festival, where both the festival and distributors invest heavily in anti-piracy measures, including undercover agents who attend screenings to capture illicit videotapers. But it turns out that they may be wasting their money. Sundance films, present and past, simply do not register in the online pirate world--unless they are one of the few that have already made it big (like Clerks or Little Miss Sunshine). This proves two things: When it comes to content piracy, obscurity, not security, is the best defense. It also demonstrates that movie pirates are fundamentally parasitic, not predatory.
